As a minister of Christ, you are called to walk in the truth of who God says you are and to fulfill the divine purpose He has set before you. However, one of the most persistent enemies of your divine calling is the lying spirit that whispers you are not good enough or the lies that others may speak against you. These lies can be powerful, undermining your confidence, distorting your sense of worth, and even causing you to doubt the calling God has placed on your life.
The Bible makes it clear that the enemy, Satan, is the father of lies. Jesus describes him in John 8:44, saying, "When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." The enemy’s tactic is to bombard you with lies about your inadequacy, your past failures, or even what others think of you. His goal is to make you believe these lies so that you become paralyzed by fear, insecurity, and self-doubt, preventing you from stepping into the fullness of your calling.
One of the most common lies you might face is the belief that you are not good enough for the work God has called you to do. This lie may come from your own thoughts, past experiences, or even from the words of others. It can sound like, "You’re not qualified," "You’ll never succeed," or "You’re just not the right person for this." But these are lies designed to keep you from walking in the truth of who you are in Christ.
The truth, however, is found in Scripture. Ephesians 2:10 declares, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." You are God’s workmanship, carefully crafted and equipped for the good works He has planned for you. The idea that you are not good enough is directly contradicted by God’s Word, which affirms that He has already prepared you for the tasks He has called you to do.
Another form of the lying spirit you may encounter is when people speak lies against you. They may question your motives, spread false rumors, or attack your character. These lies can be particularly painful because they often come from those you least expect. Yet, Jesus warned us that we would face such opposition. In Matthew 5:11-12, He said, "Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." Even when lies are spoken against you, God sees the truth and will reward your faithfulness.
To overcome the lying spirit, whether it comes from within or from others, you must anchor yourself in the truth of God’s Word. Romans 12:2 instructs, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Renewing your mind with Scripture is essential in combating the lies of the enemy. When you fill your mind with God’s truth, there is no room for the enemy’s lies to take root.
It’s also crucial to remember that your worth and your calling do not depend on human approval. Galatians 1:10 poses the challenging question, "For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ." Your focus must remain on pleasing God and fulfilling His purpose for your life, regardless of what others may say or think.
In times when the lies feel overwhelming, and you’re tempted to believe them, turn to prayer and seek God’s presence. Psalm 34:4 says, "I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." God is faithful to deliver you from the fear and doubt that the lying spirit tries to instill. He will remind you of who you are in Him and give you the strength to continue walking in your calling with confidence.
It’s also helpful to surround yourself with a community of believers who can speak truth into your life. Proverbs 27:17 states, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." Trusted friends and mentors can help you discern the truth from lies and encourage you to stand firm in your calling.
In conclusion, the lying spirit is a formidable enemy of your divine calling, whether it manifests as self-doubt or the false accusations of others. But you are not powerless against it. By grounding yourself in the truth of God’s Word, seeking His presence in prayer, and surrounding yourself with supportive believers, you can overcome the lies and walk confidently in the calling God has placed on your life. Remember, your identity and worth are found in Christ alone, and His truth will always prevail over the lies of the enemy.
Hope Expression celebrates you.
