Jesus gave us a simple yet powerful guideline in Matthew 18:15: go directly to your brother when an issue arises. Many ministries suffer because we gossip about issues instead of addressing them directly. Addressing problems with love and courage is key to healing relationships and protecting the flock. When issues are left to linger, bitterness sets in, and the enemy gains ground.
A minister must learn to balance truth and grace. Addressing issues does not mean avoiding them, and it also does not mean crushing people in the process. It means speaking the truth in love, with the goal of winning the soul, not losing it. When we approach correction with a heart for restoration, even tough conversations become healing tools.
The motive behind addressing issues must always be Kingdom-centered. Are we addressing it to restore, or to prove we are right? If we lose the soul in the process, we have failed. Ministry is about people, not just programs, and God’s heart is always for reconciliation.
Self-assessment
Do I avoid addressing issues out of fear of confrontation?
When correcting, do I aim for restoration or vindication?
Have I ever gossiped about an issue instead of handling it directly?
Do I pray for the person’s heart before engaging in hard conversations?
