One of the fastest ways the enemy weakens any ministry is through pride. Proverbs 13:10 reminds us that “only by pride comes contention.” Many ministries that once carried fire and grace now struggle, not because God has withdrawn His power, but because men allowed pride to rise above unity. Pride doesn’t always come in a loud form; it can quietly slip in through feeling unappreciated, insisting on personal preferences, or refusing to listen to others. Once pride takes the driver’s seat, unity begins to fall apart.
As ministers, we must constantly check our hearts. It is not always about who is right but about what keeps the team aligned to Christ. Unity does not mean uniformity, but it does require humility. Pride turns every difference into a fight, while humility turns differences into opportunities to learn. The presence of pride in ministry creates silent competition and unspoken tension, which eventually hinders the flow of the Spirit.
No matter the size of the calling, when pride dominates, vision becomes blurred. Ministers who once shared the same heartbeat for souls begin to drift into protecting their egos instead of pursuing God’s purpose. The Spirit thrives in an atmosphere of humility and togetherness. Once we notice pride in ourselves or among our team, it is time to repent and realign. Protecting unity is protecting the flow of grace in ministry.
Self-assessment
Do I secretly feel offended when others don’t recognize my input?
Have I allowed my personal opinions to matter more than the ministry’s unity?
In disagreements, do I aim to win or to preserve peace?
Have I asked the Holy Spirit to reveal hidden pride in my heart?
