The Scripture says, “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends” (Proverbs 16:28). As a minister, you must guard your heart and your pulpit against gossip. Gossip is not just idle talk; it is a weapon in the hands of the enemy that destroys trust, divides brethren, and weakens Kingdom work.
Guarding against gossip begins with you. Refuse to entertain it in your ear, and refuse to let it flow from your lips. Correct those who bring it, not by shaming them but by redirecting them to prayer, truth, and reconciliation. A gossiping minister becomes a tool of the enemy, but a minister who protects words protects the body of Christ.
Division often enters through small whispers that are left unchecked. As a minister, you must be quick to confront it in love and restore peace. Gossip is not harmless—it is poison. If you don’t stop it, it will stop the growth of the ministry.
Self-assessment:
Do I create an atmosphere where gossip can thrive, or where truth prevails?
How do I respond when people bring negative talk to me?
Am I willing to correct gossip firmly yet lovingly in my ministry?
